Fall and winter are some of the best seasons to celebrate in Southern Maryland. Holiday parties, winter weddings, oyster roasts, retirement dinners and family get-togethers all happen once the temperature drops. The catch is the weather. Damp air off the Chesapeake and the Patuxent and Potomac rivers makes a 45-degree evening feel a lot colder than the thermometer says, and the sun is gone before 5 p.m. in December.
The good news is that a cold-weather date does not mean moving your event indoors or cancelling it. Tri-County Tent Rentals now offers heated tents for events across Southern Maryland and Southern Virginia. Here is how a heated tent works, what to plan for, and how to get the most comfort out of your rental.
What Is a Heated Tent Rental?
A heated tent is a standard event tent that has been closed in with sidewalls and warmed with rental heaters. Tri-County rents LB White propane tent heaters, and we pair them with the tent style that fits your guest count and your venue. The goal is a comfortable room where your guests can enjoy dinner, toasts and dancing without wearing their coats all night.
How warm the tent gets depends on its size, how many guests are inside, and how cold it is that evening. That is why the best first step is to tell us your date, guest count and location, and we will recommend how much heating makes sense for your event.
Sidewalls: The Other Half of Staying Warm
Heaters work best when the heat has somewhere to stay. Optional sidewalls are available for every tent we rent, and they do double duty by blocking cold wind and keeping rain out. You can choose from:
- Solid white sidewalls for a clean, finished look and the most protection from the wind
- Cathedral window sidewalls for a classic, elegant look with natural light
- Clear panoramic sidewalls to keep your view of the water, the field or the tree line while staying sheltered
If you are still deciding on a tent style, our guide to frame, pole and sailcloth tents explains how each one works for different venues.
Plan Around the Short Days and Cold Ground
A winter tent event has a few details that a summer event does not. Keep these in mind while you plan:
- Lighting. It gets dark early, so lighting is part of the design, not an extra. We offer chandeliers, string lights and bistro lights that make a tent feel warm and inviting once the sun goes down.
- Flooring. Cold, damp ground can make a tent feel colder than it is. Full-tent carpeting and dance floors add comfort underfoot.
- Power. If your site has no outlets, ask about our 7500-watt Yamaha generators for lighting, music and catering equipment.
- Tables and seating. We rent round, banquet, cocktail and farmhouse tables along with several chair styles, so everything can come from one place.
A Quick Word on Heater Safety
Propane heaters need proper ventilation and safe clearance from tent fabric, decorations and guests. Heater placement is best left to the professionals who set up your tent. Our crew handles the complete setup and removal of your tent and rental equipment, so you do not have to worry about it.
Events That Work Well in a Heated Tent
- Holiday parties for businesses, families and organizations
- Winter weddings and receptions
- Oyster roasts, fish fries and community fundraisers
- Retirement parties and milestone birthdays
- Corporate and government events that need more space than the building offers
Whether you are hosting 30 guests in the backyard or a few hundred at a larger venue, we can size the tent to fit. Browse our tent styles and sizes or see everything available on our tent accessories page.
